Kazuri, which means "small and beautiful" in Swahili, was founded in 1975 by Lady Susan Wood.
The factory is based in Kenya, and is situated on what was once part of the Karen Blixen Estate (of the Academy Award winning film "Out of Africa").
Lady Wood initially began by employing two Kenyan women in her garden shed and taught them the art of making handmade ceramic jewelry. Word spread rapidly about the beauty and uniqueness of her jewelry, and thus sales increased and so did the facility. Kazuri provides employment to over 350 women, mostly single mothers.
In February 2009, Kazuri, ventured into manufacturing it's brand name of Leather Handbags. Using only the best quality leather, and training at International level (received by the Kazuri team) it is of utmost importance that each handbag is carefully designed to meet our customers' needs. As a result, a high percentage of our business is from repeat customers and referral.
We would welcome the opportunity to earn your trust and deliver you the best service in the industry.
Kazuri Kenya is a member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO). The mission of Kazuri is to provide and sustain employment for the disadvantaged members of the Kenyan society.
